Economic calendar today: the day's data with New York and London times

Updated Monday, September 28, 2026 at 07:07 (New York time).

Today's economic calendar is light on data but not on news. The highlights are two speeches by ECB President Christine Lagarde and, overnight in the Americas, the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) rate decision. Markets open the week with oil surging (Brent near $108, +4%) after Washington rejected Iran's proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, and with gold down 3% at $4,155.

What matters most today

  • Oil and Iran: the story of the day. Brent around $108 and WTI near $96. Expensive crude feeds inflation and strengthens bets on another Fed hike in October (about a 66–70% probability). The result: a firm dollar (dollar index at 101.11), weaker gold and Asian stocks in the red (Kospi −2.7%, Nikkei −0.7%).
  • Lagarde: euro-area inflation is released on Friday and is expected at 3.5%–3.8%. If Lagarde points to tighter policy, EUR/USD (1.1372 today, deeply oversold) would have a reason to bounce. We follow it in EUR/USD today.
  • Gold: down to $4,155, its lowest in roughly seven weeks. Levels and scenarios in gold price today.

  • Wednesday is the big day before NFP: if PCE prints +0.4% or more with oil at $108, an October Fed hike would be almost fully priced. That would weigh on gold and support the dollar.
  • Friday 2 closes the week: consensus expects only 100,000 jobs. A much stronger number would lift the dollar; a weaker one would give gold and the euro room. Get ready with our guide to trading NFP in forex and gold and our NFP week preview.

Frequently asked questions

What time is the NFP report released?

At 08:30 New York time (13:30 in London while the UK is on summer time). The next one is on Friday, October 2, 2026.

Why does oil matter so much for this week's calendar?

Because it changes how every inflation figure is read. With crude near $108, a hot PCE would be seen as the start of a new wave of price pressure, which makes another Fed hike in October more likely.

Why should a forex trader in the Americas follow the RBA?

It is Australia's central bank. Its decision moves AUD/USD directly and, because it lands during the Asian session, it sets the tone for Tuesday's early hours in gold and stock indices.
